Week of 7/25/2022

What did I learn this week?

I learned where to look for changes in tax law after discovering that some sections of last year's state tax template were outdated. I also applied what I had taken away from a couple of weeks ago about asking for help if I need it: I was somewhat surprised to find just how much smoother work flows when I'm not stuck on something for a while and I can focus on other tasks.

In the future, how could I use what I learned this week to do better?

I can continue to ask for assistance with areas that I get stuck on (rather than continuing to be stuck), since it was drilled even deeper in my head this week that my previous attitude of trying to do everything myself doesn't work all the time. Additionally, now I know where to look if another template becomes outdated and shows incorrect calculations.

How well did I communicate with other professionals this week? What did I do well? What could I have done better?

I gave a presentation explaining the impact that a change in pass-through entity tax policy would have on filing our clients' tax returns. Overall, I feel like I did well explaining the topic and presenting it in an understandable manner. There were, however, some small mistakes and stumbles that I feel like I could have fixed had I rehearsed the presentation more. I know now that I need to factor in more time to rehearse my presentations.
